Students from Highland's elementary and junior high campuses showcased their academic prowess at the District UIL academic meet held in Westbrook, Texas, on December 16th.
Students competed in a variety of events designed to challenge their knowledge and skills in subjects ranging from math and science to language arts and social studies. Contests included: Art, Calculator Applications, Chess Puzzle, Creative Writing, Dictionary Skills, Editorial Writing, Impromptu Speaking, Listening Skills, Maps Graphs & Charts, Mathematics, Modern Oratory, Music Memory, Number Sense, One-Act Play, Oral Reading, Ready Writing, Science, Spelling, Social Studies, and Storytelling. The competition provided a valuable opportunity for students to test their abilities against peers from other schools in the district.
